What to do with the Outrage
This is a follow-up to my last post.
As a therapist to sex addicts and partners of sex addicts, I find many of my partner clients are extremely outraged at the lack of accountability and ownership that is on display with the current politicized debacle being played out in the media and in real time regarding the Epst*in files.
What is a partner to feel, think, and do, when the very behaviors their spouse or partner has been involved in for years are being paraded in front of us all, without repercussions and consequences?
These feelings should not be ignored, and it is a privilege to be able to be there for these partners as they explore these feelings. I also encourage them to share these feelings in their groups — S-Anon, CoSA, or group therapy. They also could communicate with their sex addict spouse or partner the same. Journaling can also be a tool for processing, as well as writing to their state legislature, to ask for action to be taken to bring justice to the victims and survivors of these crimes.
Silence and isolation about these feelings is not the way to go. Speak out and ask for what you want and need.
